Jatara Torres

Registered Veterinary Technician

Hi, I’m Jatara, a San Diego resident for the last 15 years, born and raised on the south side of Chicago. As a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to work with animals. Prior to starting my career in the veterinary field, however, I joined the United States Navy. I dedicated 10 years of my life to service for my country, and after being honorably discharged in 2014 from active duty, I served in the Navy Reserves for an additional 2 years at the Point Loma Naval Base.

After completing my service, I attended San Diego City College and obtained my Associates in Liberal Arts & Sciences in 2018. Immediately after, I enrolled in the Animal Health Technology program at San Diego Mesa Community College. I graduated from there in 2020 with another Associates in Animal Health Technology. I obtained my Registered Veterinary Technician license right after and have been practicing in the field ever since!

Throughout my career, I have worked with many different species of animals. I have a soft spot for dogs, cats, and pocket pets. As a RVT, my goal and passion is being able to provide the best compassionate Fear Free care I can for all my patients. However, my favorite part of the job is learning about their personalities and hearing all the cute, sometimes embarrassing stories you’ve shared together.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my partner, our daughters, and our mini zoo (2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, and a sucker mouth catfish). You can find me volunteering with organizations like Project Street Vet, Gary Gives, and local events. My hobbies outside of animals include salsa dancing, painting, listening to music, and being outside under the beautiful sun (which is why I could never go back to the Windy City). I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know you and your pet!
